Considerations
Consider
These Factors Before Choosing the Type of Waste Receptacle
You Need
General
Considerations
- Weather
– Will the receptacle be exposed to rain,
wind, snow or ice?
- ADA
compliance – Will the receptacle be in an
area designated to meet AD requirements
- Fire
hazards – Will the receptacle be in close
proximity to smokers, kitchens, etc.
- Security
restrictions – Only certain styles of receptacles
meet guidelines for locations such as government buildings,
airports, etc.
- Recycling
– Local regulations frequently require a minimum number
of recycling locations
- Theft/Vandalism
– If the receptacle will be in a location in which
it is susceptible, to vandalism, consider anchoring or locking
options
Specific
Considerations
-
Consider your specific interior and exterior locations (locations
such as restrooms, kitchens, and industrial areas often
have specific requirements)
-
Project the minimum and maximum gallon capacity you need
at each location
-
Consider the minimum and maximum height needed at each location
-
Consider the styles and colors that best meet your location’s
needs
-
Do you prefer a flat or angled-top on the unit (angled tops
prevent liquid-filled containers from being left behind)
-
Consider if graphics or decals will be beneficial to assure
the use of the receptacle
-
Consider the liner options (plastic or steel, and the advantages
of polybags vs. plastic or galvanized liners)
Maintenance
Considerations
- How
often will the container be emptied?
- Will
the container be easy or difficult to empty?
- How
will refuse be transported to the collection site?
- Will
personnel be trained in quick and efficient maintenance
procedures?
